The Matakana Coastal region is best known for its white-sand beaches and also perhaps the bustling Matakana Village Farmer’s Market. It is a slice of heaven right on Auckland’s doorstep.
There is magic in the land and we are proud to be one of the wineries in the region to showcase the quality of wine produced in the area. When our new owners took over in 2012, they felt a sense of connection to the region and we want to emulate that spirit in everything we do. Whether it is a wine tasting of our wines at our cellar door, a stay at our luxury lodge or vineyard venue hire for your special event.
Our purpose is to connect people to each other, themselves, and nature by providing access to unique, memorable experiences.
We value the land, our community and our commitment to making real connections.
We take care of our customers, offering exceptional service, enabling them to relax and recharge, and helping them make lasting memories by providing unique activities and experiences.
We love to share our passion and knowledge with others, and we take pride in introducing customers to our boutique wines (crafted by our winemaker Richard Robson) and the restorative beauty and lifestyle of Matakana Estate.
The vines date back to 1996 from when they were first planted by the Vegar-Fitzgerald family. The original family members had a history of winemaking and had immigrated to New Zealand from Croatia more than 100 years ago. In early 2012, the winery was taken over by new owners with a dream to focus on producing quality boutique wines and expanding the business to offer luxury accommodation. In 2018 the Matakana Estate Lodge was open to welcome guests that are looking for a getaway destination. The estate now spans 35 acres and is the largest winery in the Matakana region.
