Tasting Notes

Matakana Estate is an established premium wine producer where our philosophy has always been to capture the essence of New Zealand's finest grape varieties from the region where they grow best. For this Merlot Malbec blending we have ventured to the Hawkes's Bay region of the North Island.

The soils of Hawke's Bay are red metal, free-draining alluvial soils which have been deposited over several thousand years by the Ngaruroro River. The hot dry north westerly winds and cool night producer grapes with excellent colour and fine natural tannins. The resulting wine is well balanced with ripe blackcurrant and plum fruit, spice and tobacco nuances, firm tannins, subtle oak characteristic and great length.

Our Malbec shines best with juicy rip eye, lamb burger or a gooey baked brie.
